This National Reconciliation Week, we reflect on the 2025 theme: Bridging Now to Next.
Each year, Reconciliation Week is an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on our shared history, acknowledge the progress made, and focus on the work still to come.
This year’s theme calls on us to take the next step and to build a pathway for the next generation, while staying grounded in the foundations that brought us here.
At Kuuwa, reconciliation is more than a date in the calendar.
As an Indigenous business, it is embedded in our values and our operations. To us, reconciliation means:
- Creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Preserving cultural heritage
- Supporting economic empowerment through meaningful partnerships
The 2025 theme challenges us to take this further. Whether through ethical sourcing, employment pathways, or local community partnerships, Kuuwa recognises that business has a powerful role to play in driving real change.
Putting Reconciliation into Practice
Our commitment to bridging now to next is seen in the work we do every day.
We actively engage with BTAC (Buurabalayji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation) to seek guidance on projects and ensure Traditional Owner voices are respected. This is not a box-ticking exercise, but a partnership built on trust and cultural understanding.
We also work alongside clients on cultural and rehabilitation projects. As major projects reach completion, the responsibility to return land to its natural state is more than regulatory, it is a respectful and meaningful part of reconciliation. We are proud to support these efforts.
Backing Community-Led Initiatives
We believe reconciliation also means giving back. One way we are doing this is by supporting Meals in the Park, an initiative in Newman focused on delivering weekly meals to people in need.
Kuuwa has donated a custom-built BBQ trailer to support this program. The build was a collaborative effort, with input from KJ’s, the Newman Women’s Shelter and Creating Communities to ensure the trailer would meet local needs. It will also be used for community training and outreach in remote areas.
These may seem like small steps, but their impact is real. Every connection we make, every project we deliver, and every partnership we build helps bridge the gap.
This Week at Kuuwa
To mark Reconciliation Week, the Kuuwa team hosted a watch party in the office, tuning in together to the Reconciliation WA event broadcast live from Fremantle on NITV. It was a chance to pause, reflect and share ideas about what reconciliation means to each of us both personally and professionally.

A Commitment Beyond the Week
This Reconciliation Week, we encourage everyone to go beyond symbolism and focus on tangible action. Let’s commit to promoting understanding, respect and equity in the spaces we work and live in.
For Kuuwa, this means continuing to lead by example and demonstrating that reconciliation is not just a concept. It is a way of doing business and it benefits everyone.
